    Default Pike's Peak

Anyone else following the live stream? http://www.usacracing.com/ppihc/live One of the two wheel drive cars just went up in 11:06. I think the ten minute mark will be beaten this year, possibly by more than one car.

Nope! I was at the event It was a last minute invite from a friend that had an extra ticket. I can now mark that one off my bucket list for motorsports. I was standing about 3 feet from the apex at Cove Creek for the Unlimited class runs. WOW!!!

I hope the results are posted today on Your Page Title so that all can see the new record. Next year the course will be ALL PAVEMENT and I suspect that the times will drip in large chunks.

If only IndyCar could and would get back into the mindset of allowing new and different technology to be raced I wonder what the Indy 500 could look like in years to come. Maybe AWD, Turbine-powered Vacuum cars with drivers that also drive other types of cars on a regular basis. Oh I can dream!!!!!!

As impressive as the unlimited record run was, I was more impressed by the two wheel drive Hyundai that ran a 10:04. There are rumors floating around that Red Bull Racing might bring an F1 car next year since it will be all paved.

I was impressed with the Hyundai effort. The Millens' are talented no doubt. The group or seasoned racers I was with are of the opinion that Rod should drive the Unlimited car and Rhys should drive the rally car.

As a group we think that the paving of the road from start to finish next year will cut the times by at least 15 seconds and maybe even a full minute. And that the type of car that is raced will change drastically in coming years. The era of the Wells Coyote as we know it are a part of PPIHC history from now on.

We were hoping to see all 5 unlimited cars run but only two finished without major issues:-( and that the one we wanted to see most, Paul Dallenbach, apparently broke only feet from the start line. Rhys lost his brakes in the "W's" and Dave Carapetyan blew the engine a short distance before going past where I was standing at Cove Creek.

A Red Bull F1 car with a 2013 spec engine would be fantastic to see. Or a current generation V-8 too but I think it would be a disappointment to them given the power loss during the climb and the total redesign that the cooling system would required to survive the run.
Now a modified CART ChampCar would be fun to see; Turbo-charged V-8 and all!!!!! At least the CART cars have some history or running at altitude and high temperatures to use as a starting point. And for good measure bring back Groupe B and add WRC, ALMS,etc. into the mix and see what happens.

I like your thinking on the old CART cars coming out to play! As for the Coyote, I agree they will be phased out but what about a Super Modified type chassis that is set up to turn both ways?

Interesting?? But I don't know how you would be able to deal with the 75- 80% left side weight and all that goes with it is a Modified. I think what will become of the Wells cars is a new chassis that takes lessons learned from all the pavement series tube chassis cars and will look a lot like the car Dallebach tried to compete with this year.

Today the FIA approved the 1.6L turbocharged V-6 for 2014. When do I start to see 80's era F1 cars come out of retirement and vintage racing and become test mules for the "new" formula??? I can hear that old 1500 hp BMW ringing in my ears already Honda, Porsche, Ferrari, Renault, et al. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, an offset chassis type super mod wouldn't work. I was thinking of something similar but built with everything on center.
