Now another scary accident involving the other factory Audi R18 driven by Mike Rockenfeller. He was clipped by a GT car on a very fast straight and hit the fence a ton. Car appears to have burned, but with it being after dark it's hard to tell the extent of the damage. No word yet on the condition of the driver. Hopefully all involved are ok.

Incredible footage of it....
And more incredibly..
Rockenfeller was able to crawl out of the car and behind the safety barrier immediately after the crash, which led to a two-hour Safety Car period as marshals reconstructed the barrier at the point where the #1 Audi had made contact.
Talking after the accident Dr Wolfgang Ullrich said “We don’t know exactly what really happened, the only information we have is that Rockenfeller left the car himself.”
Since then it has emmerged that Rockefeller suffered no injuries other than a small flesh wound on his right arm.
The accident, which left the R18 TDI unrecognisable, is the second Audi has suffered in the 2011 event. Allan McNish was lucky to have escaped unscathed from another huge shunt in the first hour of the event.2.0 Mugen CRX VT-Turbo.

How can that happen with headlights flashing to warn on the pass?

Both crashes involved a Ferrari... you think they might be a bit upset about that R8 commerical Audi did some 2 years ago???? :-/
Yet Audi comes out victorious! Congrats to Audi and thank god McNish and Rockenfeller are both OK, a testament to the safety cages and engineered energy dispersement structures, these cars have to survive at such a high-rate of speed.2005 Factory Five MkIII Roadster
