Yeah, at those prices, COTA is pricing themselves out of most casual US fans' budgets. Single weekend tickets should and will be cheaper.

^ which i believe is their point to keep F1 as a more 'Elitist' type sport - versus a Nascar venue. There is an amazing amount of seats filled by travelers (or non-local) - which is much higher than most sporting events (to be fair often have a local team).

Spoke with the rep yesterday, but I decided against PSL. I just can't justify spending that kind of money right now. So, he said I couldn't purchase any weekend passes on the phone, and I'd have to wait till may.

"The general-admission seats on Ticket City--which typically means that you sit on a blanket--start at $287 each. Grandstand general admission is $471, and a reserved seat in a grandstand--no mention of which of the four grandstands--is $713. There are two other batches of tickets offered in the turn-15 grandstands, one for $808 per ticket, the other batch for $851 per ticket."

I understand that this is a special event, but trying to fill a 300,000 person circuit to capacity with people who are able to afford those prices... Let's be honest about the American majority. Mr. Joe and Jane Mainstreet with two kids is not going to shell out about $1200 for the ability to sit on a blanket all day.

I posted this in the other COTA thread:

Biggest concern seems to be if they're able to finish on time but the PSL issue is a bit absurd. Pricing is very heavy. Additionally, management has basically gone on record calling the fans "standing room audience" and inconsequential to the event money. While true, it's a bit shortsighted to discount the people actually showing up on race day. Check out the article, and the podcast if you've got the time. Worth reading.

I am a huge Formula 1 fan, and am of the financial situation that I could afford tickets at that price. That being said, it feels like gouging! I highly doubt I will make the trip.
