Default 24 Hours of Lemons FOR THE WIN, Cherokee Style!

I am about to get on a plane to head back from Reno Fernley Raceway from the first ever West Coast full 24 Hour of Lemons race.

And the winner is.......................A 1989 JEEP CHEROKEE!!
Yes, you read that correctly! Team Petty Cash, which I am a member of received the highest award of the weekend, the Index of Effluency! Without going into great detail, the award is given for the team getting the most from the least. There were actually complaints from other competitors about how fast we were! In fact, we weren't that fast, we actually outhandled most of the field with a 2WD 200,000 plus mile $200 Jeep Cherokee. 399 laps turned!

Out of 78 cars who started the race, the Cherokee finished an amazing 14th place over! We also finished 2nd in our class.

    The Real Winner Is!
Me on the left with the stupid looking hat! IT WAS COLD, and I was unprepared!

Me at the wheel in the dry!

I also had a night stint highlighted by Snow, and Heavy Rain. The Jeep (2wd) handled it like a champion, only about 4 or 5 cars were faster than us in the rain. In car video coming soon!

Thanks everyone. We are very proud of the accomplishment. It is quite amazing to me, as I entered into all this not a Jeep guy. Heck, I own a Early Bronco! What Matt (the car owner) has been able to do with the Jeep is amazing! My night stint was in the snow and rain. We were clearly one of the fastest cars on the track, I would sometime pass three cars by late braking into the corners in the rain. In a 2WD Cherokee!
The Jeep stuck to the track like glue, was predictable, and most importantly in a 24 hour event, reliable.
I had soooo much fun that I am considering purchasing Team Petty Cash Jeep #2. I am thinking about a Comanchee!

A Comanche would be bitchin'. The Archer Bros. Comanche was pretty competitive in the old SCCA truck racing series.
Madness takes a toll. Please have exact change...

The team owner has been in contact with Archer Brothers, they are still around, and they have some old parts they offered him if he decides to campaign a second car, a Comanche.

This isn't my finest moment, but I finally got around to doing some editing of my in car footage at Reno.
Check out the Audi slide, that was plenty to distract me. Plus being up all night. Just about 30 minutes before this it was pitch black out, and snowing!
