Karting
I know we have to have some karting guys on here with some experience that can point me in the right direction. Getting closer and closer to the time when I want to pick something up, and I'm shopping around right now. Have always wanted a CRG chassis, and prices are all over the place depending on the year of the chassis, and the engine, etc.
What I'm curious about is, are the older chassis, 02/03 that far off the newer chassis? There is a 2002 CRG Blue Demon for sale, for $900, but only has a KT100 in it. Anyone want to school me?

Definitely start out with a older/used chassis and engine, and see if it's something you really want to do. Karting can become really expensive, really quickly, so make sure that you're really into it (and physically fit enough aswell!).
I'm sure you'll become hooked, Karting is the purest form of racing and the most fun you can have on four wheels

A KT-100 is a good beginner package if there is decent turnout for that class at your track. In our area then 4-stroke "clone" classes have taken over the Yamahas. CRG make a great chassis but be aware that they use strange components that don't interchange with the "standard" parts used by 99% of the rest. Even the rear wheel bolt pattern is different. If you are looking at one, ask the owner if he has swapped all the odd parts out already. Most probably have. Once you purchase a kart, find someone who can help you scale it, and get the seat position right. A good base line setup will make all the difference in getting you up to speed.

I'm more than open to chassis suggestions.
This is the ad for the blue demon....
For sale is a very nice looking 2002 CRG Blue Demon with a Kt100 engine. This kart chassis is incredibly clean. Kart has been recently refinished. Everything checked, cleaned, refurbished or gone through. Has Douglass wheels with nearly new Bridgestone YKC tires. Tillet seat. Digatron tach. The Kt100 has about 10 hours of run time on it. It comes with an expensive Horstman Nytro steel triple disc wet clutch.
Comes with extras:
-neck brace
-spare Digatron leads
-spare Kt100 cylinder
-Bell Arrow helmet size medium, pedal extenders
-RLV 3 hole exhaust can
-complete exhaust pipe mount
-set of Douglass wheels with Bridgestone YKC tires
-Maxima chain lube
-Motul 2 stroke oil"Silence your enemies with success"

I raced Rotax and Shifter Karts all through law school. I exclusively raced CRG chassis. I have had lots of CRGs and I can tell you that there is only one worth buying if you plan to do any kind of real racing: top of the line Road Rebel.
Buy once, cry once. If you want to run KT100, take off the front brakes and you can be really competitive. If you want to step up to a shifter, buy a new engine, put the front brakes back on, and you can be really competitive.
If you buy a used CRG rebel chassis, get an 02 or later. The 02 is an odd year for the rebel chassis because it has a 45 mm axle (all earlier years had 40mm and later years had 50mm). 50mm is the new standard, so it is the easiest to find parts for. However, I think the 02 45mm axle is the best handling of the 00-05 era.
If you only need to setup for one track, then I would get the 02. If you have to set up for multiple tracks, get a later chassis so you can find sprockets/bearings/etc. for it.Last edited by TJ; 04-21-2011 at 02:06 PM.

Adams is alive and well! They even have small drift sessions on Tuesdays I believe.
One of the Formula D drifters (Kyle Mohan) gives instruction. If anyone's interested I know Kyle from back in my EF1 days I can get you in contact for lessons.

Holy Chit Bat Man, didn't think Adams was still around…we used to go there back in 89/90 when I was out at Norton.
