Yeah karting was what i was thinking about getting into, and if thats successful then progress onto bigger and better things. Yeah everything is so expensive from what i have looked at especially the actual karts themselves, also i myself have little mechanics knowledge i know how to change a wheel and all that but would not be able to strip down the engine, my dad also would not be able to or change brake lines or whatever the problem was, so in my first year would i also have to hire a mechanic or are there people at each race meetings that could help you along? (: Also as money is such an important factor is it possible if you are talented and put in a lot of hard work to gain a small sponsor in the first year of your karting career to pay off some of the bills and to keep the prices down if its possible? Thanks for helping

If you can market yourself correctly and really get a good proposal you can get sponsors before you even drive. Experience helps, but many sponsors care more about what exactly you can do for them, winning in some cases is better publicity, other times just being on track and really the off track activities of marketing is what gets them.
Like I said though, experience helps and it's much easier to find support when you can show you've been in the sport for some time and show a true passion for it as well as knowledge that it's a business.
Karting is cheap, the initial buy in costs some but maintaining a kart and actually racing it is pocket change compared to a car.
You could hire a mechanic or rent a kart every weekend. This in most cases costs more, but you can focus on driving versus being a mechanic as well. You just show up and race.
Nothing can prevent you from karting if you have the funding. Even if you were eighty years old.

I race karts and Im 15, but honestly its mostly funded privately. Don't think i know anyone thats actually sponsored in karting, not a lot of benefits for sponsors in karting unless its national races...
