Question ***Red Bull engine decision set for Brazil***

Red Bull Grand Prix will announce their engine decision at the Brazillian round.

Red Bull's team management is under pressure from the Milton-Keynes design office, headed by Adrian Newey, to confirm the brand of engines for the 2010 season.

The 2009 title contenders are openly musing their options for next year's campaign, with Mercedes-Benz tipped as the leading alternative to Red Bull's current supply of Renault's 2.4 litre V8s.

But McLaren has the right to veto works partner Mercedes' arrangements with other teams, which is believed to be the reason for the delay.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports that staying with Renault power, or even switching to Cosworth, are options for Red Bull Racing.

Amid the current engine freeze, 2010 returnee Cosworth is currently in the phase of retuning its 2006-spec V8 unit for the new regulations.

It also emerges that the British company has appointed four engineers from Mercedes-Benz for its new F1 programme, and Auto Motor und Sport said it is rumoured that Cosworth might be on the verge of an alliance with Porsche.

Hmm quite confusing, but I highly doubt Kimi would go to a newly formed team and risk not being competitive. I'm sure you have already seen that he said Red Bull is not an option (even though this scenario is different)

Yup, seen it. Keep in mind Dieter Mateschitz can easily pay Raikkonens retainer. He's the only one who owns two F1 teams currently in competition. Adrian Newey has been at Red bull since he left McLaren. You know, the guy that designed all of Williams and later some of McLarens championship winning cars.

"newly formed" "risk not being competative"???

I'll answer that with the current stats:

    Pos Constructor Points
    1 Brawn/Mercedes..........156
    2 Red Bull/Renault........120.5

Yup, would'nt want to "risk" having double the constructors points of Ferrari and your drivers in 3rd and 4th place drivers points with two races left in the championship.

New year, new car, new engine = risk I doubt he will take

You know very well it's not just about the salary for Kimi, he's not going to stay in the series and be embarrassed by being uncompetitive (winning A LOT). All those stats and such in a fluke year like this... I guess I'm just surprised to see a man as knowledgeable as you in racing trying to argue this.

I guess I view things differently. I don't care how old or established a team name is. I look at the knowledege base. Any team or project with Adrian Newey or Ross Brawn behind it, regardless of the name of the team, is a low risk. The performance of the Brawn GP and RBR cars and teams is no fluke. Fast and reliable in preseason testing and fast and reliable (with the exception of RBRs engine failure-read Renault) to date. I'm not trying to argue anything. To dismiss RBR or Brawn as "fluke" teams and cars is pretty naive. Keep in mind, these teams have been getting it done both at the factory, at the track, and durring the stops. Time will tell where Kimi ends up, nobody knows for sure but him and his manager. Next season, new cars, new teams, new rules, ban on refueling etc. Brawn GP and RedBull will still be somewhere at the top of the grid.

Newey designed championship winning cars for Williams, McLaren and now a very competative RedBull. Coincidence?..I don't think so. Hence Williams paying his full salary and legally blocking him from going directly to work for McLaren. He is that influential on car design.

Let me clear the fluke thing up... I never meant that towards RBR or Brawn, but rather Ferrari and McLaren whom you compared constructors points. While the two giants were in a battle to the very end, honda and RBR started their 09 way ahead. I don't doubt that Brawn and RBR would still be good with the people they have, but they will have a lot more competition next year I believe.

If you remember... we basically knew from race one in 08 that the honda car was crap.
