Or do you define true fan as someone who watched the same race on tv, earlier than the next guy? In that case I must not be a true fan cause I embrace Tivo technology, and yes, I record the first broadcast.

Default Lewis Hamilton collects his second win of the year in Singapore Grand Prix

    Hammy Wins

Lewis Hamilton scored his second win of the season after a dominating performance for McLaren-Mercedes under the lights in the Singapore Grand Prix. His race was made easier as most of his serious challengers self-destructed.

Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing had a difficult race, meaning that the world championship is now almost certain to go to one of Brawn GP's drivers, with Jenson Button extending his lead over teammate Rubens Barrichello by one point.

From the pole position, Hamilton eased into the lead at the start. Fellow front-row starter Sebastian Vettel was beaten away by Nico Rosberg and the Williams-Toyota driver was Hamilton's closest pursuer in the race's early stages. However, the German's hopes of a good result ended when he made a mistake and bounced over the curbs at the pit exit after his first stop. Crossing the white line earned him a mandatory drive-through penalty, which dropped him out of contention.

Hamilton was heavier on fuel than most of the cars behind him, and his later stop meant he retained the lead. But he lost his advantage immediately afterward when a safety car was dispatched after Adrian Sutil spun and was tagged by Nick Heidfeld, the latter ending his run of 42 races without a retirement.

The safety-car period hindered some drivers and helped others. After the race went green again, Hamilton led Rosberg, Vettel, Timo Glock and Fernando Alonso. Rosberg dropped back when he received his penalty, and through the middle part of the race Vettel kept the pressure on Hamilton. However, he had to make an earlier second stop and thus had no chance to jump in front of the McLaren. Vettel also got a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane, although the team was convinced that its data said he had not done so.

With Vettel dropping down the order, Glock moved up to second, ahead of Alonso. Both had been involved in some first-lap action when Red Bull's Mark Webber tried to squeeze past Alonso and only did so by running wide and off the racetrack. Glock also took advantage and Webber was then told by officials to let Alonso back past him. That meant he dropped two places as Glock was in between them. Webber later had a heavy crash after suffering brake failure.

Hamilton had no problems as he cruised home ahead of Glock and Alonso. Vettel managed to recover to fourth, while Button moved up from 11th on the grid to claim fifth after a feisty performance. Barrichello lost time in a pit stop and finished sixth.

The final points went to Heikki Kovalainen and Robert Kubica. Ferrari had a disastrous day as Kimi Räikkönen could only manage 10th, and Giancarlo Fisichella was 13th.

Brake development has ramped up this year in F1. All three manufacturers are having a hard time rejecting heat while maintaining performance. The main issue is new carbon/carbon technology has gotten so good, that they are generating massive temps which are starting to cook the calipers and delam rotors - which unfortunately happened to Webber. Also the aero package has as much influence on brake cooling as the actual brake ducts. The front wing and how they manage air over and around the front wheels could be part of the issue.

^^^I used to machine beryllium valve guides and valve seats back in ~1995-1997. I wish I knew then how toxic the vapors were/are.
