Will Kubica now take Ferrari seat?
BMW Sauber star Robert Kubica is now a potential candidate to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari, possibly even as soon as the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain.
Although normally it would be highly unlikely for a works team to release a driver in the middle of the season, sources suggest that BMW's decision to pull out of the series may trigger a clause in Kubica's contract that, in effect, allows him to leave even before BMW officially stops at the end of the year.
The key is the prognosis for Massa's recovery. Although it's widely assumed that he will be out for the season, there has not yet been any official word on that. On the other hand, there remains a possibility that he won't able to drive at the start of 2010, and the team may well have to find a longer- term solution. The problem is that it obviously has to respect Massa's position and not be seen to be hiring a potential replacement for 2010 too prematurely.
Kubica is unlikely to jump ship unless it is 100 percent clear that he will get seven races this year, and he probably also will require a longer-term commitment from the team--in other words, that it becomes apparent that Massa won't be racing next year. In that case, Ferrari could end up with a Fernando Alonso-Kubica combination in 2010.
There perhaps remains a possibility that Kubica would go even if Ferrari cannot yet offer anything firm for 2010, on the basis that he has a better chance of advertising his talents to third parties in the Maranello car than with BMW.
BMW would obviously not be happy to lose its star driver at a time when it is keen to earn some points and salvage some respectability from this season, and one must assume that such a move would happen only if Kubica's contract has, in effect, been nullified by the news.
BMW has Christian Klein available as its third driver, but the Austrian has done little mileage and has not raced an F1 car since being dropped by Red Bull in 2006.

Will Robert Kubica wear Ferrari red?

Ooooohhh the rumor mill will be on overdrive.
Reality is: Each F1 team has at least one of their test drivers present at every race as a last minute sub if the primary driver gets hurt or sick.
Other than the test driver, Ferrari is currently speaking to their own Mr. Schumacher, as he is still under contract to the Scuderia Ferrari.
