Felipe Massa's condition continues to improve after doctors woke him from his induced coma on Tuesday.
Doctors also assessed his left eye, which was swollen shut after a spring from Rubens Barrichello's car came loose and struck Massa in the head during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 25. There appears to be no problem with the eye, despite earlier reports that it had sustained serious damage. Also, Massa has responded well to questions.
Peter Bazso, medical director of the AEK Hospital that is treating Massa, told Hungarian TV that he expects that the 28-year-old Ferrari Formula One driver will soon "walk out of the hospital on his own. If his recovery continues at this pace, I wouldn't rule out that he could leave within 10 days.
"He's spending more and more time awake, talking to family and friends. I would like to point out that, although he's recovering, this is not the end of the story; he is still in a life-threatening condition. Of course, the danger is decreasing by the day."
Massa's visitors Tuesday included Jean Todt, the man who brought him to Ferrari and the father of the Brazilian's manager, Nicolas Todt.
