    Default Mosley tells Formula One teams to form their own series

    FIA president Max Mosley has warned Formula One teams to think again if they think they are going to strong-arm the sport’s governing body into relaxing its proposed budget-cap rules for the 2010 season.

    F1’s current teams have submitted entries to the FIA for next year’s championship, but said they did so only provisionally. The established teams want a new Concorde Agreement--the sport’s governing document--to be signed by June 12, and want the budget cap abandoned and this year’s rules left in place. The teams have pledged to work together to continue reducing costs, but on their own terms.

    Mosley, however, told Switzerland’s Motorsport Aktuell that the teams’ demands are unworkable and suggested they start their own “breakaway” series if they do not like the FIA’s plans for F1.

    “A Concorde Agreement which one receives so late can’t be signed by June 12,” Mosley said.

    “We now have a conflict, and we will see who succeeds in the end. I say to them: If you want to draw up your own rules, then you can organize your own championship. But [the FIA controls] the Formula One championship.

    “We draw up the rules for that. We have been doing that for 60 years, and we will continue doing so.”

    Several established teams, including Ferrari, have said that they will not compete in F1 next year if the FIA does not back down from its stance. Plenty of new names have submitted entries and might very well fill the grid if the longtime teams abandon it, but the question remains: How many fans will stick with the sport if famous top-level teams withdraw?

    Im curious to see what new teams want to sign up for this, this is the most expensive and challenging series to run in. Most manfacturers are getting out of less expensive racing series, I dont see many stepping up to fill the spots.

    So far the new teams that have submitted entries are Brabham, Prodrive, Superfund, USF1 and Campos.

    Williams and Ferrari are the only 2 from FOTA that have submitted the appropriate FIA entry into the 2010 Championship.

    Max and Bernie has forgotten that without the big name constructors, the fans will not follow the sport.
    Why can't they make more of the weight advantage rule like touring cars? The more races you win you get more weight on the car.
    Seems like an easier way to keep things even without preventing the R & D aspect of F1.
    One of the reasons we watch F1 is for the technological showcase and with already a limit in testing and wind tunnel, a budget cap will make the sport into any other race series around the world.

    Actually, the FIA pulled a fast one. Ferrari was posted as an entrant against there wish. The FOTA teams are "conditional" entrants for the 2010 season. This means they intend to enter only and if the FIA proposed rules are shot down. If Max insists on the proposed 2010 rules then all the FOTA teams are out with the exception of Williams and Force India - Niether of wich are factory teams.

    Very true. Read more Ferrari articles since posting that. Now it's extended to the 19th for the FOTA teams to submit the proper entry.

    I'm up in the air on either a split, or Max getting a brain implant. What do you think is in the cards? FIA says that the rules can not be changed unless voted unanimously by all confirmed entrants. Could be just to get them to drop their "conditional" entry. "As F1 Turns" so much better than General Hospital.

    ^^^ Lol. Yup - lots of drama and posturing. IMO - the real root of what is going on here started when the manufacturers rightfully wanted more "equity" in F1 proceedings as they are putting in all the investment. Specifically when Toyota entered F1 as a constructor, Honda purchased BAR and BMW purchased Sauber. Ferrari was always a factory team. Basically whats happening is Max Mosely is losing his grip on the control of F1 and does'nt like it. The manufacturers are basically saying without us what are you going to control? Right now both sides are posturing. The difference is the timing of it all. There are credible rumors that Toyota has wanted to pull the plug on their F1 program for a approx a year now due to lack of performance and economics. Renault has also experessed similar views and reasons.
    This is the perfect opportunity for several manufacturers to pull the plug on the grounds of economics and dissatisfaction with the FIA - rules. IMO if some of/all the manufactures withdraw, they will not form another series. It makes more sence to ride out the global economic situation on the sideline for a few years and watch Max Mosely/ F1 with a non manufacturer backed second rate series flounder. As you said - general (F1) hospital.

    Renault has already released a letter to their suppliers saying they might not be involved in the sport next year... didn't know Toyota was on the outs as well. I kinda think they (FOTA) might be having a serious look into a breakaway though, they've talked to Dorna Sports.. but then again, more posturing and drama. To crazy and too much speculation. Gotta love it!
