I am not debating the 'how'... your guess is as good as mine and basically is speculation at this point.
Why is much easier... They ran the vette on that track with great success (read: lap record) and use its likeness in a lot of their advertising. They also do a lot of vehicle development based on track time on the 'Ring so it would make sense to me that they would acquire and use such a resource. Again, how they would accomplish that is anyone's guess...
I am not even saying I would want them to buy it... but someone is better than no one and this track disappearing for good, don't you agree???Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked - Warren Buffett

Its the only thing about the whole place that created anything close to a profit. That was the case before all the other bullshit started and it will be like that again when everything else has been resolved.
Latest rumour is that bernie ecclestone is interested in purchasing the Ring.| Some say_ that he's working on his 3rd million since the first 2 didn't work out.

Correction, the vette doesn't have the record, although GM has sure been advertising like it has. They were 7.5 seconds slower then the Viper ACR. Far from the record

GM loves tricking the public like this. Like when they claim all these back to back lemans victories, when they were only racing themselves. The only reason they started winning is because the vipers (which CRUSHED them in almost every race) dropped out, so it was just vette vs. vette. It was impossible for them NOT to win..

Fooking gotta love marketers... I am all for branding and marketing but being intentionally deceptive is an entirely other realm!
Looks like they got some help from the local government to buy the time they need to sort things out and get it going in the right direction! Very happy to hear this for the 'Ring's sake!

With as much pub this track gets along with being the "standard" to test the best cars on earth, I find this awkward.
Maybe they need to raise the rent on manufacturers?

I agree, it is awkward and seems odd but has very little to do with the "rent". It has much more to do with the developers in control of the track who have bankrupted it trying to put all kinds of tourist-like attractions on the tracks property in an effort to monetize the brand.
