Pick the stone before anything.
Whats up Long Island. I've been there already. It was a process I could've lived without, but it's a part of life so make the most of it. I have to ask though, If you're a brand whore do you want name or do you want quality? You can find great quality at a few choice places down on jewelers row in the city if you know who to speak to...but they don't have the brand recognition. Sounds like you want brand recognition. In that case, speak to someone about estate pieces. I believe someone mentioned that already in this thread. You'll find rare pieces that you won't find in the stores.
Aside from that just head to the city, make your way down 5th ave, and hit up the usual suspects, Harry Winston, Tiffanys, De Beers, Cartier et al. And if you need more assistance just hit up all of their respective websites. They have good basic information on buying a ring. How to Choose a Ring
Im here to help when youre ready...If you need the "name" mine is Jason Wade, nice to meet you. Its not Harry or Tiffany, but I have a team of craftsmen in NYC that do work for them, so connect the dots...whats in a "name" may not be what you expected. You hear guys in this thread talking about Hearts and Arrows diamonds, also referred to as Super Ideal Cuts....walk into Tiffany or Harry Winston and ask them for their selection of H&A stones, your selection may be nil to a few. What makes a diamond "do what it does" is the cut, not the clarity or the color. jason@gemsbyjwade.com
