    Default Costco Engagement ring?!

So I was talking to one of my close friends yesterday. He mentioned that he was getting engaged soon and that he had chosen a ring. Surprisingly it was a ring from Costco, but honestly it looked pretty legit. People were leaving great reviews and were saying that their rings appraise for double.

Personally, I've always been a fan of supporting small businesses as much as I can. So I would much rather go to small jeweler that I could build a relationship.

    Any thoughts, comments?

I don't know...There is something about buying a ring from a small shop in the diamond district in NYC that appeals to me. Maybe it is because my dad has always shopped there for my mom and has developed a relationship with the guys/gals there but that would be my go to place. Also, even if it is a great ring, which I have no doubt it is, it still has a stigma of being from costco where you can buy enough TP to wipes all the a** in the world, collectively. hahaha

Someone posted a picture of a 15k Panerai displayed at Costco so an engagement ring from them isn't as quacky as it sounds.

i agree. But after reading all these horror stories that google guided me to, I would rather go with Costco than one of those mall retailers. Although, a personal jeweler would be ideal

Yeah mall retailers tend to be overpriced and some are complete scams, but the diamond guy in NYC is legit. You need to build up trust with them though for sure.

I used a personal jewler for my engagement ring...told him exactly what I wanted. He got it built for me...got it appraised for twice the cost I paid for it.

i like the classic styles. bought mine through tiffany's. price is about 20% higher than retail but you have a piece of mind. plus you can trade up anytime.

costco is a little cheaper obviously but not as cheap as wholesellers. but quality is legit. the only issue with costco is cleaning of the ring which you'll have to do yourself or find a reputable shop locally. it's important to get the ring cleaned several times a year to keep it sparkling.
