I would rather buy a ring from Costco than from the slimeballs on 47th street ANY day. At least at costco, you will get what you pay for. Those scumbags on 47th street will rip you off the first chance they get. BTW, I used to be one of them.

I wouldn't say all the guys on 47th street are slimeballs. The one my family has been dealing with is very kind and honest. Even when a diamond came lose from my mom's tennis bracelet, they replaced it free of charge. The bracelet also appraised for much much more than my dad was charged.
But I do have to agree, there are a lot of slimy people there. If you want a no stress buying environment and are extremely well informed, 47th isn't the place for you.

YEAH 47TH ST IS GONNA HOSE YOU. learn about what you are buying, estate diamonds are USUALLY the best deal. costcos prices are low, i would match them, but they are really good deals on the solitaire diamonds, the other jewelry, not as much
PM me for special L4P member deals on all diamonds and jewelry and the best deals in new and pre-owned watches from Provident Jewelry!

No offense, but you like him because he is a family friend. Hell, I have connections on 47th street as well. However, if a regular joe walks in off the street, that's the hustle...get as much money from the poor sap. Thats the business of 47th street. You get diamonds a grade lower, a color lower, "cash pricing" but when you have a problem, they never heard of you, etc. Yes, there are those 1% that are honest, but they are lost in a sea of 99% slimeballs.

Yep I agree, but I like is said after you build up a relationship/trust, they will do you right. You need to come into that place knowing everything you can about diamonds (grades, cuts, clarities, etc) and be a good negotiator.
Just as you said negotiating there is not for the average Joe, but I feel like the members on here can be driven to do the research and a drive a hard good bargain, just as they do with exotic cars.
Slimeballs are everywhere, keep your head down and try to avoid the slime they spew
