    Default Black Diamonds

    Hey guys!

I'm just wondering a few things... I really like the look of some pieces featuring black diamonds. I'm particularly interested in a pendant (cross) which is approximately 3.5" in height and I forgot how wide... It claims about 1.15 carats.

    Here's a pic -

It's priced at $900US. Can someone with experience give me a gauge on whether or not it's worth it? What's the deal with clarity for a black diamond?

    Thanks in advance

black diamonds are dyed, so clarity isn't an issue. They don't have much sparkle, relying on the facets to reflect, not the actual fire of the diamond.

Oh right! I know absolutely nothing about them so thank you for that info.

So really, the initial quality of the diamond (before it's dyed) doesn't necessarily matter? Does this mean they're priced solely on carat weight then?

    Thanks

AFAIK, it is just based on carat weight. You might want to PM member DrivenAgain, he's our in-house jewelry designer and sponsor. He can assist you better than I can.

Haha fair enough. I dunno, I really like the piece and personally I think some of the things people are doing with black diamonds are pretty amazing!

Well first off, what's your opinion on the first post?

Would you be able and willing to design/make a similar piece for a similar price? I'm in Australia, and since this would be coming from the US anyway I might as well support a forum sponsor

    Cheers
