As I said earlier, keep it unless you really need the money. Also, I am no watch expert but I highly doubt you will get anything close to $25k for that thing.
What type of movement does it have?

Keep it, it may look a little gaudy, but the fact that it has family history and is most likely a one off that was quite pricey back in the day, means you can rock it with pride.

I would just display it with my watches. You probably won't wear it but you said it yourself, it represents his hard work and how he took care of others.

Or pull the stones and melt the gold and use it all to make a new watch of your own design. That way you've still got some of the sentimental value.
I might be inheriting a very nice watch from my grandfather when he passes, solid gold with a few stones. I'd never sell it but if I was going to do something with it, it would be that.
I understand money is the thing here but it's a decision you'll have to live with forever.Last edited by A.D; 10-01-2011 at 08:51 AM.

do what we Aussies do mate, pass it down generation to generation.
Want house, Do work. Don't make the mistake of letting go of the watch, or even the car. If the house is meant for you it will happen one way or another.
Respects for your loss, best of luck with your decision
