Thread: Favorite place in london?

Amex gives free nights at mandarin oriental, but figured id ask what else is out there thats well priced and in good location.

the last time i went, i stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel - very boutiquey - but it's nothing any different than anywhere else. if you like Nobu (i don't), there's one downstairs. there's also a private club downstairs, that is open to hotel guests (i was too drunk to really function by the time i was ready to go so no idea if it's good or not.)

london is so big, and getting around is soooo expensive, you're pretty much screwed no matter where you stay.

would be first time there, i heard taxi's are insanely expensive. where is good area to stay to shop and look around.. or im just screwed regardless

the Mandarin Oriental is a good location - somewhat central to a lot of shopping and it's nice to be by a park. still, just be prepared to walk.

Hilton Green Park worked for me nicely last year paid with Amex points. Close to Buck house if your sight seeing, and of course Big Ben, Parliament. Walk the other direction and you get to Oxford street. Picadilly Circus, Leicester Square are a little bit of a walk but just up the road. Walk along Bond Street for the high end stuff, again very close. You would be in the Mafair district this is the equivalent of Boardwalk. (Think Monopoly)

Berkley Square has a few nice car dealerships if you want to take a stroll that way.

When getting around London walk or take the underground it is so much cheaper and easier. The entrance to the underground is just a block or so away from the Hilton. The Ritz is just a couple of blocks away too.
From the airport take the express train into London, and then take a taxi if you have a lot of luggage. You will save a ton of cash.

For shopping, the obvious place is 5th Avenue, Park Avenue, and Madison Avenue..can't really answer the hotel question since I live 20 minutes away lol

Um, you did see this was for LONDON, right? As in, across the pond . . .

We always stay at the Marble Arch stop, as it's centrally located and very Tube accessible.

I've walked a lot of london and like everyone said I'd recommend the underground. It is very easy to use and get around.

The Lanesborough and The Dorchester are my personal favourites for hotels. I'll PM you good places to shop, eat etc..
