External HD + TV = :S
Hey guys, i'm gonna cut right to the case, i currently have an external harddrive which contains all backup of my dvds, cds, bluray's you name it, all the media(almost) i own is on there. I need some sort of way to link that external harddrive so i can watch it on my TV, as i've been told this is possible. The idea is to have a nice user friendly way of navigating around in my stuff. I've looked around and found stuff like boxee and XBMC, which gives me sort of what i want. Leaning towards XBMC mostly as i love the layout and how it shoes the front pictures from the movie with info and such. The problem however is that my current pc makes alot of noise and dont want to have to turn it on everytime i want to watch a movie.
What is the best way for me to solve this issue, if its possible to use my iphone as a remote thats a plus, but not a demand. What have you guys done or heard of that can lead me down the right path.
Hope that was clear enough, otherwise let me know

I have a custom sony media pc that i use. But the tv broke!
It ran on a touchscreen, and had all sorts of cool shit
the new one i am working on, is an actual cash register modded, that will be mounted on the wall. it will also be like a jukebox set up, but with all my movies.JEEP: The dirtiest of the four-letter words

you can plug it directly into a ps3 via usb and run it with the ps3 controller.
or you can hook it up to a desktop or laptop (easier) as a monitor then you can use the computer to play it.

roku boxes and boxee boxes aren't bad for that. they're about $1xx each. you can plug the hdd into either, and they'll play any file you can imagine.
