Theater Remote Options?
Hey guys,
What do you recommend for a all in one remote. I've been suggested the RTI TB-2 Remote and I want to see what else is out there.
It may or may not be an option but are there decent apps for an ipad to control the receiver, dvd... etc?
Thanks!1400rwhp 8 Second Street Supra

Seems like Thinkflood's redeye would turn an ipad into a decent option. I dont know if it compares to the other remotes though.
Anyone use their iphone/ipad to control their setup?Last edited by SteelCitySupra; 07-09-2010 at 12:51 AM.

I just replaced my Harmony 890 remote in the living room with an iPod touch running the iRule remote application. My setup is purely IR over Wi-Fi as opposed to IR via line of sight.
The iRule app uses the built-in WiFi on the iPod touch to communicate with an IR Repeater (also hooked up to my home network) which sends commands to all of my components (Receiver, DVR, TV, Blu-Ray player, etc) via IR emitters. The app allows you to customize screens, buttons, macros etc. and is versatile and easy to use for someone with some degree of technical expertise. There are some minor drawbacks however I've been happy with the new setup overall. They also have a version of the app for the iPad in the works as well. You can check out info on the app here: iRule - iPhone & iPod Touch Universal Remote Control Application. Allowing you to control your home theater.
In my dedicated Home Theater Room I'm using the Philips Pronto TSU 9200 with the RFX extender. Phillips has several remotes in their Pronto line which are nice. For someone who is technically proficient they're fairly easy to program and setup.
There are a lot of good options available when it comes to quality home theater remotes. However depending on your overall needs and budget one option may be better than another. For instance do you require RF capability, IR capability, or both? Are you willing to spend time programming the remote yourself would prefer to have a custom certified installer to do it? What kind of budget are you working with if any?Last edited by sharkMX; 07-09-2010 at 01:58 PM.

I wonder this too... I was at one time going to purchase a Harmony 1000, but I didn't spring for it yet since I was curious about other remotes out there.
The iPhone one is actually a really cool idea....definitely have to do more reading about that.

I ended up going with the Universal Mx-5000. It better be worth it!
