DLP or LED powered DLP?
Thoughts? I'm trying to decide between 3 TVs:
65" DLP
67" LED powered DLP
73" DLP
What is different about the LED powered? Is there any benefit?"You need people like me so you can point your f*cking fingers, and say, 'that's the bad guy!'"

With LED you shouldn't ever need to replace the light source, but I haven't done much research on whether there are any other issues with the new LED based DLPs.
I really like the idea of not having to replace bulbs at ~$300 a pop so LED would be my choice.
The Phatlight technology is impressive.

The LED version uses RGB LED lights instead of a light bulb and a colour wheel. The benefits are that the LED light source should last for the life of the set (no replacing bulbs every few thousand hours), and since there's no colour wheel there's no (little?) chance of seeing 'rainbows'.Last edited by StreetPreacher; 07-31-2008 at 03:48 AM.

A lamp based DLP set uses a light bulb that has a spinning color wheel filter in front of it to produce the three primary colors; whereas, a LED based set has 3 LEDs that are turned on and off at the same speed to mimic the effect of the color wheel. HID lamps like this are typically spec'd with approximately a year of useful life when operated continuously, and the spinning color wheel filter is also subject to failure due to failure of the motor assembly. LED lifetime is typically 5-10X longer than a comparable bulb, and the net result is a set that requires less maintenance. Phlatlight LEDs are similar to regular LEDs, except that the light produced is focused better out of the face of the chip due to the design so the efficiency is a bit higher.
