    Default Hiding DirecTV receiver

What solutions are out there? I have a 19" lcd in the breakfast area that fits nicely along the wall next to the brick hearth. The receiver sitting on a shelf above it is an eye sore.

Call DirecTV and ask for a RF receiver. By default they use IR which needs a direct sight to work, RF does not. You would be able to put it in the cabinet or something similar.

I'm on Comcast so I can't comment 100% on that.

@James best way to test is to cover the box or even move it to your new location and try using the remote. Also apparently RF remotes have a FCC Id on the back of the remote.

I have had DirecTv forever it seems, and I don't think any of my receivers are RF, as they require a clear path for the remote to transmit to. If you manage to get a RF receiver, please post pics, would be nice to see if I could eliminate the receivers from view too.

I've been with DTV since '97 and so far all of my receivers have been RF. I've tucked my receivers away so it's not that easy to snap a pic, sorry.

I'm pretty sure my Comcast is IR, I have little to no control if something is in front of the box. I have never asked them but will give them a call in the morning if Internet search comes up dry.

Ya, I have to point my remote exactly line of sight to the Comcast box...and if one of my kids gets in front of it, which they always are..ugh.

I really wish there was a work around for this I knew about...would love to be able to hide those boxes.

Well there is, you can get a IR -> RF module

Something like this, I think it is ugly beyond all get out though

IR to RF to IR Remote Control Range Extender Kit, 433 MHz - Smarthome

or something along the lines of this
