My Bedroom Setup
Hey guys, figured I'd post a little vid of my htpc setup that i'm currently running in my bedroom. The PC doubles as my desktop so i don't really use the htpc as much as I'd like but it servers its purpose for those nights at home when myself and a lady friend (or two
) want to watch movies.
I own about 200+ Blu-Ray DVD's and i try to back them up so i don't have to get up and put them in myself
. I would have loved to pick up the crestron 200 disc blu-ray changer but at $9000, I'll pass. Backing them up doesn't really kill the quality if you select the correct settings but on the average a movie takes easily 10 hours or more and i believe the longest movie i did was about 17 hours. Anywho ALL movies on my setup are blu-ray and full 1080p
Enjoy the little snippet of the dark knight. Hoping to add a TV tuner later on with DVR features.
Eventually when I move into a new home I will be building my own dedicated theater with my step-father but for now this works
PS. Sorry for the glare, Just finished moving around my room, didn't have time to put back up my curtains

Sure!
Front End Software is
MEDIAPORTAL - free media center - Home
You can basically find everything you need there. I'm using mediaportal+moving pictures.
Backing up your Blu-Rays are simple, you need to purchase ANY DVD and rip the Disc to your HDD. Shrinking it from there takes some work however i was able to do it with some guide off the internet. Rips directly from your own Blu-Ray disc are easily 35gb+ but once i compress them to a good size and extract only the movie and Audio i can delete the rip as i have all the original Blu-Ray Discs if i ever need them. I believe there might be a way to play the direct rip but i'm not sure nor is it necessary for me.
Tecthis - Blu-Ray Movies are HUGE. I Started off with 1TB but it all depends on how you save your backups. For movies I really liked i save them on the highest quality which can be anywhere from 20+ gb whereas Regular movies are 10gb or so. 75 Movies which are currently backed (varying quality settings) takes up exactly 811gb. I plan to expand my setup to a new Raid NAS which is capable of up to 8TB.
When I do decide to move i will be able to build a server solely for all my media and wire the entire house with Gigabit Ethernet. Right now i have my Ext HDD running off firewire which is attached directly to the HTPC, plays flawlessly.Last edited by slimmj0k3r; 10-16-2009 at 09:43 PM.

I'm so jealous, how did you get your walls such a deep red? I tried once and after 9 coats of red + 1 coat of grey primer I still wasn't that deep!
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
