My Modest Theater: In Progress
Hey Guys; just bought a house and the FIRST thing i built was my theater. In fact, the night i got the keys i already had paint in hand and dropcloths ready; and got it painted that night!

It's coming together nicely.
To-Do List:
-put up some acoustic panels/bass traps
-buy the seating
-build a riser
-run the cables in the walls (HDMI, Component, Audio/Speakers)
-bridge a power outlet to the ceiling for the PJ (bought one of those powerbridge kits, brilliant idea)
I was on a relatively small budget, and it's a really small room [roughly 10x14] , but I wanted the best bang for the buck [don't we all] -- Here's a rundown of my stuff:
BenQ W5000 1080p DLP Projector
84" HC Gray (1.1 gain) Screen
AV123 Rocket RS550MkII Front L/R
AV123 Rocket RSC100 Center channel
AV123 Rocket ELT-LRSse Surround R/L
Klipsch Icon XW-500D10" 1200W(500W RMS) Subwoofer
Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2 Ch Receiver
PS3
WDTV
Mac Mini HTPC
Philips DVD Player

I'm loving it.
The surrounds are sitting on boxes right now until i can run the wiring through the attic
, and im using my old couch in the meantime. The BenQ PJ is ridiculously sharp and the colors are outstanding out of the box. I'm not too sensitive to RBE (i can notice it if i try to look for it, but it doesnt give me headaches like a very small population of people get)
I also considered the Sony SXRD/LCoS PJ's but since the room has some windows, the low lumen output wouldnt work too well, plus i was scared of the green/blue blotches that can develop over time [which ive since treated with some nice velvet drapes and blackout backing] -- i also looked at some 3LCD PJ's like the Epson 1080 and the Mitsu HC6500 or some Marantz units (the mitsu is awesome, but i really like the vividness/pop of a DLP Projector, and the mitsu came closest from an LCD).Last edited by Cicada; 05-28-2009 at 04:41 PM.

Hey Bro,
How do you like your Logitech Harmony remote? I ordered that earlier this week from Newegg.com and it's coming in today. Also, do you have the adapter to control the PS3 with the remote as well?

i don't have the PS3 adapter yet, but that's on my list of things to buy soon.
the Harmony One is AWESOME; my parents have an older Harmony, and I always liked them -- the touch screen looks (and works) great.
The one thing is setting it up -- for the most part their automated software does a good job of programming the buttons for you, but sometimes it assigns them to the wrong buttons on the Harmony, so you have to Re-map them. I had quite a few problems with my WDTV, but luckily the controller on that only has about 10 buttons, so it was easy to re-map everything.
initial setup can be a lengthy process [im still working on rearranging buttons, mapping buttons, and programming remotes] but once everything is setup, it works like a dream. Activities are
So far i have it set up to control my Projector, Receiver, Subwoofer [the icon has an ir Rx on it], WD TV, PS3 (once i get the adapter), DVD, Mac MiniLast edited by Cicada; 05-28-2009 at 06:24 PM.

That's so sick - thanks for posting your thoughts about it. I really stoked about hooking it up when I get home after work I love the fact that I can setup everything via PC.
By the way - love the set up I have a Onkyo Receiver too and I love it.
