Any experience with Control 4 automation?
Was wondering if anyone on the forums had personal experience with the Control 4 home automation setup? I had the Crestron at my last place but just moved into a new Brown Stone that is not pre wired. I noticed the control 4 has a wireless network link for lighting, HVAC, Security, home theater and even remote speakers. I am just a little uneasy doing that much wireless over a large multi story place?
I have all brick and stone interior walls separating the units and no basement so a no wire system would be best for my situation. Just wanted to see if anyone had feed back on the system here? I have an installer coming out to look at my place already but wanted some independent feedback!

We have a pretty extensive control 4 system set up in our home, we have it controlling lighting, curtains, all home speakers, windows, temperature etc, I think it was all pre wired though.

Crestron can do most things wirelessly also... look into infiNet products. Crestrons iPhone App is much more cost efficient also. You get what you pay for in home automation.

I have a good friend who is an authorized dealer and installer for the Control systems (his business is called Hometronix if you are interested in shopping various distributors/installers).
He has done a setup in at least one L4P member's home (I will let that member speak up if he so desires). I have seen a couple of the installer's control 4 setups and they are all very cool. There is even an Iphone App to control it all from your phone! I would not hesitate to put it in my home.

It's really slick.... however you can do the 80% of the same app with a squeezebox and Iphone. at 10% of the cost.

I wasn't aware they had the infiNet, I will look into it. I know I am not shoping for a bargain setup in HA. But I am well aware of the few hundred percent luxury tax on Crestron prodcts as I have already had two of there systems before, hence the reason for looking around.
Would you mind PMing me his information. Not sure if he works with local installers or not but I have no loyalty to anyone local as my last AV guy is no longer doing it.

Heres some info on the iPhone/iPod Touch apps for each:
Control4 FACTS.
1) Control4 iPhone app from the Apple Store FREE
2) License from Control4 to use the FREE iPhone App $300 PER iPhone/iPod Touch
3) Requires Control4 Dealer install.
4) Control4 Remote/Web Access, to allow C4 dealers access to clients system, runs $99.00 PER YEAR.
At MINIMUM it will run a Control4 client $300.00 for licensing.
If they do not have 4Sight then $399.00
If their dealer charges for install (say $75.00) $474.00
Crestron Facts.
1) iPhone app from the Apple Store FREE.
2) License from Crestron to use the iPhone , unlike Control4, license is FREE.
2) Requires Dealer Install
3) Crestron Remote/Web Access, to allow Crestron Dealers access to clients system is FREE.
Just as food for thought.
