Default Home Theater Speakers - Which to get?

So i'm in the market for home theater speakers. I have heard that b&w's, Anthony Gallos or Magnepans are a good start. I'm looking to spend around 3-5k on speakers, for either 5.1 or 7.1.

Its for a basement home theater, 100inch screen, room is about 17x25

Any thoughts on what i should get?

    thanks in advance!

    Alex...

For HT use, I'd go with the B&W. If you were leaning more to the music side of things, then I would look at those and the Mags.

At the price you're looking to spend (upper portion) and good electronics, the system will out perform the price.

    Good Luck

Not sure if Bose are up to standards but we have em in the family room and push out some great bass and sound.

I would personally pick up the new B&W CM9's or 683's, REL sub and an Integra receiver. That should bring your right to your budget, I would also stick to 5.1.

    Spot On!!!

Not into Integra, but at that price range you'd be splitting hairs.

Cambridge Audio makes a create receiver also.

It's all about going out and listening to the speakers. Take a familiar CD or movie and go and listen to it a couple of times with various setups.

I'm partial to Paradigm Studio 100's or 60's paired with a good sub (just came back from listening to the 100's) matched with either a Rotel or NAD amp/receiver.

For a screen you can look at SMX or Da-Lite

If your looking for a sub, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND a Bic H-100. I bought one a few weeks ago and it is amazing. 650watts and sounds great. You could shake a house down with this sub. I found this sub on the AVSforum.com because it was highly recommended due to the value and power. It has a msrp for $650, but I bought it on ebay for $229. Oh, and did I mention that it is huge! It is 60lbs and a foot and a half tall.

    No Doubt!
