Thread: GR Updates From Camera Car Team

Well, just got to a place where I can spend a moment looking at footage we captured.

So far, we have 12 one-hour tapes and about 140GB of Flash Memory chewed up.

From the bits I've seen, I think we have ample to tell a great story on the DVD

Rally participants get a DVD free, I'm being told.

I'm estimating 6-8 weeks for completion but there are A LOT of variables there.

Teaser will come in a few weeks.

Highlights: Flybys by several exotics next to a cow field that stampeded the herd. We had four cameras running for those shots.

Canyon shots in Cornhole, California (that's what it should have been called) where we laid in the road and captured cars flying by next to a dead cow carcass.

Jason T (SpeedRacer38) hanging out the window at 80MPM almost kissing the pavement with his knuckles to catch the procession rolling down I15 at speed, outside of Baker.

Be advised: If you try and pull the footage off onto a DVD or CD, I need the raw files...nothing can be compressed through Quicktime, Compressor or anything like that.

Email me at craiglieberman@cox.net and we'll get through it together. Or, you can send me tapes, media cards (with a self addressed envelope, if you want) and I will happily IMMEDIATELY capture the media myself and send you back your media/flash memory.

That was a perfect spot we stopped at ahead of the pack on Hwy. 58 to get those fly bys of the cars.

further update:
Most of you know that the camera car got struck by a flying tire carcass discharged off the Qatar guys' M6. Grille and bumper effed up pretty nice. No biggie, the bumper was rock chipped anyway. I wasn't even remotely upset.

Later that day, we ran over a 6 inch by 6 inch steel box and dragged it for 500 feet. With no jack, it was wedged under the car. I drove the car up on the soft edge curbing to give us clearance and we got it out. Remarkably, no damage.

All of this is of course captured on video.

Tonight, I was heading back to San Fran. Pulled over to get gas, noticed a scre in the tire. No biggie, tire place across the street was willing to patch it and have me on the road in 30 minutes or less. Unfortunately, the back tires are bald on the inside...they wouldn't touch. Instead, I had to detour back to LA and postpone my San Fran meeting for a day. Limped the car home.

Wow.

$1800 in bumper damaged. $800 for new tires. $340 for 4 wheel alignment.
