My little garage build.....
Thought I would ad my garage build in the mix here....
So the sob story is, growing up as a kid I didnt have much. A house built in the 1920's, no A/C (and its F'n hot in NC) and only a wood stove for heat in the winter....so needless to say I had no garage. I was into cars at a really young age....before words there were hot wheels...lol Later in life I found a great (and smoking hot) woman, and we bought a townhouse together....again, no garage. It was killing me. At the time I had a turbo charged Acura. Not a great idea with a homeowners association and only a shared parking lot to tinker on the car. In time my Mother-in-law fell on hard times and was gonna loose her house. My now Wife and I bought her out and we all lived together for a few years....again no garage...bum. I knew I wasn't gonna live in that house forever so I got myself a Lenard building (14x24) big enough to pull my car in. Once things were turning around again my wife and I decided to move to Wilmington to be closer to the beach.
She of course fell in love with a great little house...again, you guessed it...no garage. So I brought my Lenard building down with me and set it up....I worked in that garage doing engine swaps and major overhauls on a number of cars for people for just over 10 years...but then It was time to move on....so I started to build....here are a few pics from in the old little lenard building, as well as the new garage. The new one was gonna be be big enough to put the lenard building in and spin it around....life is good.
some of the times in the old garge....

then moved on and into this process....

you can see the size difference in the old shop and the new spot....

some inside...

at about this point the city decided that it was just to big...lol well so much for the city codes....worst part of it is that I had approved plans and given the green light by the city and the county....as it turns out they can do whatever they want and I gotta pay...so in the end it was decided that the best solution to put me back into compliance would be to take 4 feet off the back of the garage, and make it part of the actual house by attaching the new garage to the existing structure...crazy shit I know...but another 30,000 dollars later...here we go...taking the wall down and burning up the money...

left me with this pile of wasted dollars...

it was coming together none-the-less

little work going down on the inside...even though it is not finished yet.

Since the battle with the city I am simply out of money to finish the inside....It will get done, Im still young (36) and I built all of this without a "real" job in nearly 10 years....so Im not complaining.... point is...I am from nothing so this is my kingdom...its all relative.Last edited by madspeed; 01-04-2011 at 02:09 AM.

Holy fish eye lens! Teehee
Looks good, club house above garage? I'm not familiar with your code but do you have to put fire resistant ceiling material between the garage and upstairs?East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.

That's correct, there must be fire resistant materials used between the garage and any type of living space. Was the original plan... It was going to be used as a "mother-in-law" type sweet. But with all the hold ups with my local code enforcement Im not sure what will come of the upstairs. It would be ideal to use it for a "play room" or club house type of space..... so I am hoping that's how I can make it work out.
Would be great and maybe one day I will get it the damn thing finished and do just that.
This project has been going on for more than 2 years already....but the day will come.
til then...Im kick'n back
