Don't put a car under it till it's in the locks!!! We have a backyard buddy 4 post that lost a cable sorta, the pin that holds one of the pulleys somehow got loose and came out and the cable slipped off and basically, one of the corners slammed to the ground. It wasn't quite up to the 1st lock so we were able to get all the corners down, pulled the car off (5th gen Camaro, i knew they were overweight) and pulled the lift apart and repaired it. It's kinda sketchy using the lift now, but we enhanced the strength before reassembly...it should be better than new now.
I'll try to get some pictures of the damage and all that good stuff.Wait, what?

It's the same principal with jacks and jack stands. You can never rely on fluid pressure or air pressure ALWAYS have a back up plan. Metal is a lot harder to break than a rubber gasket holding the air pressure in.
I don't have a car lift but I have a motorcycle lift table. Now I wouldn't complain if it fell on the boxes under it, that I currently don't know what to do with

i left a giant chevy 3500 conversion van on a four post lift for 3 months with no problems...
i will say this... 4 post lift is awesome for storage, but sucks if you are going to work on the car. IMO the 2 post lift is the way to go. I have one of eachCurrent
No Car... bummer dude

as others said. make sure the lift is sitting on the locks before you leave it sit. And when working on a car on a lift, ALWAYS keep it on the locks.
I have had a 2 post and 4 post Rotory. Always had a car underneath another and when on the locks, I have zero worries.
also make sure the top vehicle is not losing fluid...onto the car below.

I store my Trans Am on a 4-post lift through the winter and have no issues with it. I don't have it bolted down, but I did drill holes in the floor to put pins in to ensure the legs of the lift stay put and secure.

I don't worry about it too much, but just to be safe I make sure the 69 sits on top of the Supra, where she should be.
94 Supra | 69 Camaro | 99 Land Cruiser | 94 Trans Am
