I think there were issues with the '05 F430 when it first came out too. Not on a large scale, but I remember hearing a bunch going on fire. My suggestion would be to not get the first year run of 458's and wait 'til the second yer when all the imperfections are fixed.

Im going to guess these fires are being caused by either A. electrical or B. High exhaust temps in the engine bay. Seems most of the photos of the cars on fire are in an urban enviroment, aka stop and go driving. Maybe not enough air moving through the engine bay to keep temps down?
