I think everyone is misunderstanding this car, it's not a hybrid like a Prius...the way i understand it is that it isn't going to run on electric power alone. It sounds like they are utilizing an electric motor to be used for a momentary power boost. At then end of the description it says that KERS is also going to be featured, so i guess what they are talking about now isn't that...but it doesn't seem like they are going to try to turn off the petrol motor for light load driving conditions.

Any car can be labeled a "hybrid" if it has more than one source of power, it doesn't mean Ferrari is selling out and creating electric powered cars. They just took the 599 and made it faster, and because they are using electricity to gain additional power, they are able to call it a Hybrid...which makes all the hippies happy b/c they see "hybrid" and all the gear heads even happier b/c they get MORE POWER!!!
    Wait, what?

i love it... i think it's actually also a social experiment by ferrari, to see who actually reads their press releases... or just reads in general. those that do, will realize that it supposedly offers faster performance (we'll see about the handling tho, eh?), better mileage, lowered emissions, etc. so it's technically better than a standard, gas-only version of the same car in every way. of course, the experiment is to see how many people just see the word "hybrid" and automatically think "F this!" cuz they envision the car being like a prius. a very fun experiment, on many levels...

Just because a car is hybrid, it doesn't mean that it runs on electric power alone. Like kwiker said "any car can be labeled a 'hybrid' if it has more than one source of power". I am totally for this move by Ferrari because they have lowered emissions and increased power on the 599 even after the added weight. It's rare to find something like this in which there is almost no downside so good job Ferrari, keep it up. To those people that don't like this idea, read the press release first and then make judgements later.
