Bow Tie Question(sorta urgent?)
So I'm trying to figure out what type of shirt I should be wearing with a bow tie: a dress shirt or a sport shirt? I would be wearing a white dress shirt or a light blue sport shirt.
The blue sport shirt would be this color:

These are the two bow ties I have:

I like the pink one more(I'm a very preppy dresser), but I can't tie a bow tie for sh*t.

What type of event are you wearing this bowtie to? I wouldn't wear either bowties because, 1) the bubblegum pink looks tacky, 2) the alternative is too vintage (and not in the good way).
With that blue button down shirt, I'd wear a plaid bowtie but thats just me.
Thats my honest opinion.Let it not be said that we did nothing

I agree with G Star, the pink looks like you're trying to stick out too much--which the bowtie already does for you.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: Learn how to tie a bow tie
second do not wear a button down collar with a bow tie if you do wear a tie with a button down use a half windsor knot on a traditional tie.
Now both ties are fresh now how will you dress it up. If you going for prep you need a pocket square and a blazer. Navy blue or black you cannot go wrong with. The pink Bow tie will work with these color shirts: French Blue, White, Black, EggShell, light blue, Gray: herringbone and or plain will look sharp also. Throw in a white, blue or accomodating pink pocket square and kill the game you will. Same goes for the other bow tie with the exception of throwing in a pink, navy, or red pocket square.
Your tie will and always should be a statement piece and can easily be turned into a power tie whether or not you go to the boardroom or club. But in order for it to work you must accessorize it and dress it up properly turning it from being potentially ostentatious to a fashionable, tasteful conversation piece. Like everything K.I.S.S. - so color blocking, contrast, and proper dress up will take those ties far. let me know how it goes.Last edited by SEDUCTION.INC; 01-21-2012 at 08:44 AM.

Unfortunately you're over a month late lol. But thanks for the help!
I ended up pairing the pink bow tie with the light blue button I pictured and made sure that the buttons were not visible. I also wore a a blazer with a pink pocket square with khaki's. It was for a sorority's "pinning" where other guys were wearing suits(Mine was back in CT)......not trying to sound full of myself but I definitely was better dressed than 99% of the guys there. It's amazing how a nice fitting set of a blazer, dress shirt, khaki's can look compared to an ill fitting suit and ugly colored shirt.
