Hot towel, professional barber, go for it.
When i was in law school, I got one every weekend, just to relax. It's great, you have nothing to worry about. It takes an idiot to kill somebody while shaving them. In another life, I used to use my combat knife to shave, so if I can do that to myself, a professional can certainly manage a straight razor without killing someone.Si vis pacem, para bellum.

I get them once or twice a week for years now. Very relaxing, hot towel helps. The guy i go to here in nyc is great, but i do occasionally get a cut or two as expected. Nothing major at all and it goes away quick. The guy who does mine opens up a new blade every time in front of me rather then clean it. Good feeling to know you and the person who sat there before you arent going to become blood brothers. After you get your first shave your going to be addicted.....go and do it asap!

I had as a treat when I visited family in England last year. The barber had a shop in London before moving back up to the midlands. Very close shave, but I had some mild irritation the next day. Definitely worth it though, just for the experience!
