the future of performance cars.......
The Future of Performance Cars - Yahoo! Autos
excerpt from another board, discuss:
Things I see that spell a bleak future for new fun cars:
Poor global economy.
Poor quality of available gasoline.
The price and availability of gasoline.
Ethanol in increasing amounts in fuel.
Severe "speeder laws" that make the cars useless.
Taxes.
Local law enforcement, as well as State and Federal tax enforcement personnel who TARGET owners of " exotic" cars . Sure, mess with the people who own the business and spend money in the local economy. (Idiots.)
Some stuff needs to change. Or cars as our generation has grown up with them will be gone forever. Changes are already happening, and not all of them are good.
Just my .02. Explains why I like old , slow cars.
my thoughts & comments:
I do agree almost 100%, with the exception of: Old, slow cars.
I think the best era of automobiles, both in performance, functions & usability - will be about 2003-2012. I love Nav, ventilated seats, Sat Radio, all power functions, dynamic, massaging seats, keyless entry, etc etc....
However, with the new technology - don't really care for cylinders that shut down while at lights (eco mode), cars that park themselves, or (even) bluetooth !!! Rather just hold a phone to my ear.
So I am ultimately unsold & unsure as to all this newfangled stuff, and I'm a relatively young guy. Fairly tech savvy but not overly so....

This ethanol BS is pissing me off.... We don't get a choice anymore. No ethanol free gas stations. I would pay more for purer gas....it's total BS.

Curious to see how cars will be holding up in the long run with ethanol add in gas.

The majority of Shell stations are using nitrogen enriched fuel as opposed to Ethanol. I drive a good 2-3 miles out of my way to make sure I used their gas everytime. I'm sure substitutes are available in your area. That being said...
I do like some of the gadgets coming. SYNC in Fords is nice, but I only use it to play music. Call or text, I can do on my own without getting pissed off at the computer. And as far as working on cars, or doing my own builds, I like em' the older the better. Nothing like dealing with 2 radiator hoses, a carb and simple mechanics. Good luck getting them to handle like they do nowadays though. :/135

Living here in the Detroit area, there always little news stories of crap the automanufactures are adding to cars. Most of it is because an engineer needs to keep his job so he dreams up something stupid. Like park assist. Really? I have tried this a t a Ford function once and I was not impressed. The parameters have to be just so , or it will not park you properly. The hands free cell? Not for me. I believe engines will lose cylinders and have turbos hanging on them.Just not a fan of cars being overengineered. Just people trying to keep their job by saying "look boss what I came up with". "Good job Johnson, you still have a job"
I have ran out of room for watches, Im now going to collect cars...
