I like it.
Not sure he's working the right angle by pitching it to people who are looking at an F430 or Gallardo. That's like cross-shopping a used Charger SRT-8 with a new Toyota Camry.
It's the perfect car for Gumball though, a total BEAST on the open road.

Primarily known for being the founder of Gumball 3000.

Personally, my idea of a perfect car for the gumball is something slightly more reliable

I'll take it a step further and add that I don't believe Max's car is a real XJ220 S. The real cars are fairly well documented, their current locations are known, and all of them have the same fixed rear wing that was featured on the XJ220C's that raced at LeMans. Max's car has an identical nose piece, but the rear end is like every other stock XJ220. The only real XJ220 S that's in the UK is chassis #803 - painted Summer Yellow with matching wheels.
An extensive gallery of all the real ones can be found here:
SUPERCARS.NET - Comprehensive Specifications, Galleries & Forums since 1996
The 'mystery car' on page one is now believed to be an interim paintjob on chassis #802.
I won't mind being proved wrong on this, but I suspect very strongly that I won't be.

DR. Vahe owned 2. 1 light blue and 1 frog green.
He had them repainted. 1 black and 1 silver
Dick Marconi owned the RED one, don't know if he still owns it i heard it was N.Y.
Michael Sheehan had 2. 1 SILVER AND 1 ORANGE
I believe one was a real "S" and one wasn't but not sure.
Not sure how many xj220s total were made. i think 5 or 6
When in doubt.....go flat out.

I would have just linked to the source, but it requires registration now. It's here if anyone cares to do so.JAGUAR XJ 220 S
Number History
779 Orange - sold to USA Original 540 cv engine
784 Was in Volvo Museum .Light Blue - sold to France .2001 sold to Vik USA for 150 000 $.Original engine 540 cv
793 Red - sold to UK
801 Race car unfinished, sold to my friend a racing driver who bought all the 220 .He finish the car in Green ,sold it and they repaint the car in Silver ,2000 sold to USA (the car IS NOT a 220 S)
802 Light Green appear in many magazines ,was the daily driver of my friend ,2000 sold to USA
803 Yellow.England
Those comments are slightly outdated - the red one is now the Marconi car. As you mention, the Light Blue and Light Green were painted and upgraded by Dr Vahe while he owned them. His black one is now in Arizona, and his gray one was (according to one source) seized by a bank and set to be auctioned recently. Neither the Orange one or the Yellow one could be Max's, and the Silver one that wasn't originally an S is less than 10 minutes from where I am sitting.
