I would end up with the iPad if I were to get either of them, which is pretty unlikely.
I love their software. :/

iPad mini. I haven't used either device, but I'm assuming they'll just be like their respective tablets and phones. To me, the iOS system is less buggy/glitchy, no compatibility problems, more intuitive, and feels like a more "complete" operating system. The Nexus 7 will most likely have more features, but the iPad mini will make better use of the features it does have. I've used most of the other Android tablets, and IMO they seem to be of cheaper quality.

I own a iPad 2 and a Nexus 7. I prefer the Nexus in every way, not even factoring price into the equation. Google Now is an amazing app that has no equal in the iOS world.
Specs don't tell the whole story with any device, but the Nexus screen is much higher resolution and is a proper widescreen format. Why anyone would want a 4:3 ratio screen these days is beyond me. The Nexus handles exactly like a paperback book. The proportions of the iPad mini are kind of awkward. Maybe not so much if you're used to reading square books.
If you have a ton of apps in the itunes world, I suspect you'll stay there. If you're starting from scratch, the Nexus is probably the best 7" tablet on the market today.

Flash is used by 22% of websites. I reach for the Kindle Fire much more often than the iPad.

iPad mini. Apps...

Have both, voted ipad mini. More tablet oriented apps, and a bunch of other reasons that you can find on most major review sites. You can't go wrong either way though, as the Nexus 7 is a solid device as well.
