The processors and internal components might be the same, but the build quality is vastly superior on their Thinkpad models. The laptop case and chassis are a more rugged metal or composite-reinforced plastic, the hinge designs are more robust and rated for longer life, battery life is longer, etc etc. The keyboard on a Thinkpad has a built-in drainage system - seriously, you can spill a cup of coffee on your keyboard and it has gutters that will drain out the sides so that you don't fry your laptop. All of their systems meet Mil-spec testing requirements for durability and ruggedness.
My Thinkpad is over 4 years old now and the hinges feel like they're as stiff as they were when brand new - and I'm pretty rough on my laptop with how much I travel (it's been to 14 countries in the past 16 months). Compare that with consumer level laptops, and the hinges would be floppy and barely hold the screen up.
Most any business series laptop is going to have a significantly better build quality than consumer/entertainment laptops, whether its a Lenovo Thinkpad or another brand; the Thinkpads have a long standing history of some of the best build quality in the industry though, so it's tough to argue against them.Last edited by GoHokiesGo; 06-06-2012 at 11:39 PM.

Holding true to my roots and belief that Lenovo Thinkpads are a superior product, I needed a solid travel laptop that was small for my trip to Thailand and just ordered a X200s.
lalasd, let me know when you get your new tablet and what your thoughts are on the purchase------

Interested in hearing about your tablet as well. I have had tablet issues this year but will most likely pick up another. ideapads are for hood rats in my opinion, if you are going to go lenovo for a laptop, the plain looking thinkpads are the only way to go, they are the ak47 of the laptop world, fill it with sand and it will still fire.

I haven't ordered one yet. I need to figure out if I can swap the harddrive. I wanted to have a 250 gb ssd at least. But, they only offer up to 180 GB ... at an insane price. SSD is a must for me.
Can anyone confirm if the hard dive is replaceable ... easily?
Here is a video I found about it.

Do not wait for an Acer, they are huge pieces of shit. Now if you're talking about an Asus, that's a different story.

Yeah Asus.... unfuckable and untouchable. I'm still in love with my Asus N61 laptop that's over 2 years old.
