Cool Recommend me some speakers/woofer combos for a dorm party please?

Sup ladies and gents, I'm looking for some nice speakers for my dorm next year. I want to hold dorm parties and so I would like some quality sound system. My budget is ~$300. Anyone have any recommendations???

    Is that budget too low?!?!?!
I didn't know speakers were that expensive.. especially for a dorm haha. My buddy has a normal best buy-bought stereo and he uses that and it sounds just fine.. I think he but it for 150>

I guess I'm open to any recommendations then. Just know I'm a college student and not a professional DJ or whatever so I don't need $1000 speakers :P

my computer speakers were $240. You could probably find decent ones for around $300 but the speakers I see for home theater systems that I find "good" are in excess of $300

oh I got you. But I'm really not looking for surround sound, just house speakers.
I really like these. I could possibly even get two of them - Newegg.com - Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) Each

A lot of people are saying the Audioengine A5 are amazing speakers and they blow a lot of the higher brand speakers out of the water. The price isn't bad either! 300 bucks on the dot + tax ofcourse

if it's for a dorm party look into a bose sounddock (possibly used for a better one). keep in mind a lot of people are going to want to change songs and poke around so maybe a single unit that sits on a shelf would be good. We use one in my student house and the sound is good and it doesn't get damaged

What's the size of the room? # of people attending? Noise limits?

Running of a computer or separate media center?

A simple "home theatre in a Box" might be the best option. You can get them at Best Buy or other big box stores.

The options you could go with are endless, but hope you find some good ones. Good luck and don't get caught, quick and easy way to get in trouble with a school.
