Might be moving to VA
So I have a possible job opportunity that is to good to pass up but I have to move to VA from FL. Anyway the job is around Fairfax I believe and I need to find a place somewhere around there but was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what's a good place to start looking for an apt. I am trying to stay in the $900-$1400 range. So if anyone has any ideas or someone that they can get me in contact with that would be awesome.

I'm about 45 minutes south but there are a ton of apartment complexes around there in that range. I can't recommend a specific one. Best bet will be to come up for a weekend after checking out some places online.

fairfax is THE best area imo. born and raised here.
to start off, these might be a bit more than your budget but fair lakes and fairfax corner are both great neighboring areas that are pretty much central to just about everything. theres a new set of condos being built right by fairfax town center too. so you could look into that

no problem.
the top areas:
fairfax
clifton
mclean/tysons
chantilly
reston
arlington
vienna
stay away from:
manassas
centreville
sterling
leesburg
south riding
ashburn
alexandria
again these are my preferences and some people might disagree but those are the areas id look into.
when are you moving up here? family has a place in fairlakes. there might be a spot open for rent depending when you come upLast edited by intence; 04-21-2010 at 06:23 AM.

Thanks for the tip. I was actually looking at a place in Leesburg because the place I might be getting the job at I think has another office around there but I maybe wrong.
Also, what makes you pick those places to stay away from and what makes the others top places if you don't mind me asking.
If I end up getting the job it will probably be sometime around the end of April beginning of May.Matt

the top places are just a better atmosphere. better location. better people. safer usually. middle to upper class. better nightlife besides DC. more things to do.
i would probably say the #1 reason i dont like those places listed is because of location. some areas are predominantly lower class. more traffic depending on area.
i added some more areas to both lists

You can't touch anything in that range in Sterling, Potomac Falls. These are all part of Loudoun county which was nominated the richest county in America 4th year in a row. Average income here is $150K+. You can do a lot in Fairfax with that money or Reston.

You really can get a place for any price anywhere, you just have to look. I paid $550 a month for a house in a neighborhood in McLean. I'm paying $600 now for an apt in Tyson's.
In your price range I think Fairfax would be great. It's a nice area and theres anything and everything to do there. A lot of young professionals and plenty of places to drink/eat/shop/etc.
The DC area has a ton of car meets too, so that a great plus to moving to this area.
