Thread: Bentley says the W-12 will continue, Flying Spur gets neglect

Despite the premiere of the new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 variant, Bentley says that the W-12 engine will continue to be a staple in the Continental lineup. The new smaller V-8 engine produces 500 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque, only 67 hp and 29 lb-ft of torque less than the W-12-powered car, while requiring 40 percent less fuel. These new figures combined with a lower asking price may spur sales in the coupe and convertible, but, obviously, Bentley doesn’t think it is good enough to compete with its customers’ needs for bountiful power reserves.

We also asked about the aging Flying Spur, which was not mentioned in the V-8 cars' press release. Bentley confirmed that, as of right now, the Flying Spur will stick with only the W-12 engine. We tried to learn more about what fate lies ahead for the Flying Spur; unfortunately, Bentley refused to comment on how or when (or dare we even say if) it will be updated.

glad to see it live on, the W12 engines are so awesome.

W motors are remarkably neat.

W-12 is an amazing powerplant that defines the CGT. It'd be interesting to see how V8 takes over in sales. If by large numbers, I am sure Bentley will change their mind. It sucks that the 4 DR is getting no love. The car could be improved in looks to compete with the the sport coupe segment.
