Default Four decades later, the 1969 Camaro once again reigns supreme

Steve White and Steve Keech founded S/S Motorsports of Sarasota, Florida, about six years ago. It is dedicated to restoring and building muscle cars with coach-built, concourse-quality construction and extreme performance. How extreme? It defines extreme as the capability to hustle through a quarter-mile in less than 10.5 seconds; we’d call that extreme too.

It mandates two other important distinctions about the vehicles that roll out of its 15,000-square-foot facilities. They must be fuss-free pro-tour quality, which means no ill-mannered drag-strip divas. Lastly, a rust-free, muscle-car-era survivor would be required for the foundation. S/S will never cut corners in building its machines, which rules out ever using a reproduction body.

An excellent example is its white 705-hp 1969 Camaro. A car that takes the basic Extreme package, which includes a 540-cubic-inch V-8 with 600 hp and four-barrel carburetors, to, well, the extreme, by substituting a 565-cubic-inch motor that pumps out north of 700 horses. Computer-controlled direct port fuel injection qualifies it as a resto mod, a very popular build that combines classic looks with modern performance technology. Like all S/S cars, it is built to operate flawlessly on pump gas.

All this power travels to the pavement via a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, Mosier rear end with 3.73 gears, and a set of sticky 335/35R-18 drag radial tires. The tires wrap around 18-inch Budnik Billet wheels. Baer four-wheel power disc brakes are ready to slow down the fast herd of ponies when necessary.

Inside is a full leather interior with custom dash and gauges, modern Vintage air conditioning system, and AM/FM/CD/iPod audio system. Exterior appointments include a fiberglass stinger hood and custom PPG Concours paint with S/S striping.

Each Extreme Camaro is built to suit the customer’s desired specs and preferences. Prices start at $149,995 for the base Extreme Package.
