The reduction on oil use far outweights the battery issue from financial and environmental points.

When people say that the car isn't environmentally friendly they are talking about the CAR + MANUFACTURING so the total impact from start to finish.

+1, I wasn't talking about how they dispose of them I was talking about them making the batteries
