I had some luck with the Stinky-be-Gone sold by Griot's Garage. I think the material is zeolite or something. You can reuse it indefinitely as well.

A thorough cleaning and something like that?

No prob. I literally just sprayed it in my car a few hours ago. I still smell like Apple and so does the car. No hint of the nasty lingering smells that were in there.

ozium works well too. the shit from walmart

+1 on Ozium - that stuff will kill any smell. The citrus one works less well than the rest, the blue or the black cans work best.
