Satin Black Wheels
I'm going to get some satin black wheels for my everyday car, but I was wondering what is the best thing to use to wash them and remove all the grime, that will be safe and what to use to protect the wheel and give it that nice rich semi-gloss shine.

Use soap and water to clean them but rinse the wheels off with water before actually cleaning. I have heard wood cleaner works on anodize wheels not sure on Satin Black

Phil a sponsor here on the board (detailers domain) for P21S wheel cleaners, and Auto Glym Custom Wheel Cleaner is being used by quite a few guys here in the detailing section as well.

^ I'm with Bob on this one. IF you need something stronger than car wash soap (like lots of brake-dust that's baked on), then go with something like P21S gel

For initial cleaning P21S...
Then I would follow up with some good polymer sealant protection, Phil at DD has a huge range of products that would be good for this, I personally would get some Opti-Seal, but what sealant to use is a personal preference thing...
After that you should only need car wash soap from them on out if you keep up on the maintenance.
