Thread: Lamborghini Gallardo: 4k in damage by a previous detailer.

This poor Lamborghini Gallardo had a pretty bad 'first detailing' by the previous detail. Over the course of what I believe was nine days, two pieces of trim where burned beyond repair, the majority of the trim was covered (and some stained) with compound residue (this stuff was EVERWHERE), and numerous sanding tracer scratches remained in the paint.

The good news is that the majority of the paint looked pretty good and was pretty swirl free. Unfortunately the sanding scratches where so frequent that the majority of the Lamborghini required re polishing.

Before Pictures:

The trim was burned badly on both sides (the rear windows behind the doors). Unfortunately this is an expensive repair because Lamborghini has to remove the windows to replace the trim.



The trim really took a beating.

After the window trim was repaired, I returned to see if I could lend a hand and hopefully deliver the results promised by the previous detailer.

Cleaning Process:

Wash with Eimann Fabrik Auto Spa, Two Bucket Method, Gold Concours Ultimitt

Spend about three hours with Meguiar's APC 4:1 and q tips cleaning all of the wax and compound residue out of everything.

Clean wheels with with Meguiars Wheel Brightener 10:1

Clean tires with Eimann Fabrik Tire Cleaner

Clean wheel compartments with Eimann Fabrik Hi Intensity Cleaner

Clean Engine Compartment with Meguiars Super Degreaser 10:1

Clean rubber trim with Meguiars M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner

After washing the car was dried with two Big Blue III drying downs, and all seems and nooks where blown dry with a high speed leaf blower.

Paint Correction Process.

I inspected the paint in the sun and used blue masking tape to mark any areas where deep sanding scratches remained. There where 9 places in total. For this correction I selected the FlexL3043VRG Rotary polisher.

I attacked each sanding mark area by attempting to use Meguiars M105 on a Meguiars So1o Burgundy Wool Pad. 6 of the 9 spots came out after 3 passes. On the remaining 3 spots, I sanded lighting in a cross hatch pattern with Meguiars 3000 Unigrit sandpaper, working the sandpaper across the scratching. I was able to sand out 2 of the spots, but the last spot, on passenger side rear fender, was too deep to perfect.

The wet sanded areas where cut and polished using M105 with a Lake Country 4 ply wool pad. I used Kevin Brown's recommendations, using moderate to heavy pressure on the rotary and misting the panel with water half way through the buffing cycle.

After removing all sanding tracers, I polished the surface with M105 with Orange Hi Gloss CCS pads in either 6.5” or 4 inch sizes. One of the benefits is that its quick work time with a rotary allows excellent results to be achieve in record time. A picture of the mini Flex rotary armed a 4 inch Hi Gloss CCS 4 inch pad, and ready for M105.



The final step polishing and jeweling came courtesy of Meguiars M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a Meguiars So1o Finishing pad for large panels and a Black Hi Gloss CCS 4 inch pads for tight areas. M205 was worked with moderate pressure for the first 2-3 passes, then pressure and RPM where gradually reduced for subsequent passes. I worked the polish a little on the longer side, but was blow away by how clear and crisp the paint looked after polishing. The flake looked insane.

Final polish paint with M205 with Meguiars So1o Finishing pad and Hi Gloss Black CCS spot pads







After polishing, the Lambo was detaped and washed thoroughly. The interior was dirty and required quite a bit of work. Unbelievably, the concours service offered by the previous detailer did not include interior cleaning, even after 9 days. After finishing the interior, the wheels, tire and trim where carefully detailed and the LSPs where applied.

Interior vacuumed with MetroVac

Carpets shampooed/extracted with Mytee Light Extractor and Meguiars APC+

Leather cleaned with Gloss It Satin Leather Cleaner

Leather conditioned with Gloss It Satin Leather Polish

Exhaust polished with Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh

Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish applied to the paint with Hi Gloss Red Classic Pad using the Flex 3401VRG Dual Action Polisher

Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant applied to the paint with Concours Hi Gloss Gold CCS Pad using the Flex3401 VRG Dual Action Polisher

Sweet job on the detail, it sucks that the owner had to go though everything he did with the past detail. But on another note I am sure he was more than happy that you came in and did the right thing. The car looks amazing like all of your other write ups I read man!!!!!!

Todd, Excellent work as usual. I feel bad for the owner, but it was a great outcome in the end.

The other guy should dig himself a deep hole and stay there....forever!
