Default French food, just can't get into it

I know French food is supposed to be amazing and its the ultimate super romantic food.............I just can't get into it. I don't mind it and I've had some really good French food, but it just does nothing special for me. Am I missing something? Granted, all the French food I've eaten was served as like 7 course meals and not as I just point to something on a menu. Does anyone here really like French food that can maybe explain to me what makes it really that much better than say KFC?

Josh,What some might call superior about French food,is its discipline, which most foundations and roots of fine cooking are based on.You will not find much difference these days compared to any other rustic foods.(Italian,Spanish, etc)Believe it or not, besides its roots as being the "be all,end all" of cooking disciplines,it really gained its huge fame and notoriety in the '60's when Jackie O' demanded the White House have a french chef...Walla...it took off in this country. My suggestion though,is when being in a big city...try a Brasserie...it is great "people watching",and just plain 'ol great rustic French food(Bar steaks, frites, etc) try Pastis,or Balthazar..if ever in NYC...you will be a convert!

I'll have to look around Chicago for a French place that isn't one that serves in courses

Same, never found anything special with French food. Honestly I'm not a fan of true Italian either. I need more robust flavors.

In River North ... I believe the address is 500 Superior St.

The atmosphere is great for a small group of people and the service is excellent! And I think it's right what you are looking for. Simple French cuisine w/o the nuance of X course dinners.

Order what you want to eat and enjoy
