    Default Good Kona brand

Hi all, I want to try a good Kona coffee. Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking for the beans.

Since it's been a few days without response, I'll give an alternate recommendation-
Alto Grande Coffee from puerto rico: Welcome to altogrande.com

There are 3 coffee's in the world that are viewed as "super premium" coffees - Jamaican blue mountain coffee, Hawaii's Kona coffee, and Puerto Rico's Alto Grande coffee. It is the official coffee that was served in European Royal Courts and at the Vatican, often called the "coffee of Popes and Kings", and is also the favorite coffee of Gevalia's master taster.

I discovered it on a trip to Puerto Rico and havent ever turned back. It's the only coffee that I can drink straight black, and it's probably the smoothest coffee I've drank before. It's tough to find it in stores in the mainland US, so I typically order it in 5-lbs sacks straight from the hacienda through their website; you can order normal size cans just to try it, but I order the big sack of it because shipping is pricey from P.R. for a small can.

So, not a Kona coffee, but still one of the world's best you can buy.

Odd on the Puerto Rican coffee since that's where my wife hails from. But - she doesn't drink coffee. Worth a try since she has family there. And will check out the other link so thanks for the response all.

From the Coffee newsletter in Hawaii:

"Kona coffee is a rare commodity. In fact, only an estimated 1,500 acres are said to be in production and the majority of farms in Kona are family owned and operated. This little amount of coffee acreage in Kona has created a shortage of product for many retailers and roasters especially late in the season around summertime. For some this has created a problem in meeting demand. The Bad Ass Coffee Company, who is one of the largest locally owned and independent retailers and franchise operators in Kona, has remedied this problem not by counterfeiting or blending Kona coffee but by renaming many of their coffee lines as Hawaiian and using coffee from the island of Kauai to meet the demand. As a result the Bad Ass Coffee Company has become one of the larger purchasers of Kauai coffee and has aided the growth of another local coffee industry. The Company still sells all the Kona coffee they can get a hold of and is always available to customers at any of their locations but only under the name "Kona" and only as a true product. Owner, Dennis Lovel, feels everyone in the coffee industry has an equal responsibility to promote truth in labeling and is proud to be a seller of Kona coffee at whatever level."

I purchased some of the Peaberry from Bad Ass, and it is outstanding.
Always purchase beans, never pre ground. It's stale before you get to use it.

When coffee says "Kona Blend", only 10 % of it has to be Kona Coffee. The rest can be floor sweepings...
