    Default The Belgian Beer Thread

Those who know a bit about beers, sooner or later will come across Belgian beers as some of the finest brews on the planet... I've seen top restaurant chefs taste some of our fine Trappist beers, and declare they would have no problem serving that in a Michelin Star restaurant, if a customer would request it...

Because a lot of our beers are not available abroad, me and some other Belgians will post up a beer from time to time, so you know what to order if you're ever in Belgium, or come across a specialist store somewhere...

    Questions always welcome

OK, to start of, one of the more special beers, and something a lot of people will frown upon, but I can assure you, "it works"...

It's called Kriek, and this one is by the brewery Lindemans. Offered in 37,5CL bottles, with cork and cap...

You'll notice the red colour... The colour comes from cherries. Yes that's right, CHERRIES

It's a rather special taste, more on the sweet side, and great in summer...

Never understood why people like drinking beer, but I think that's just me

I suppose you have access to a specialist dealer there? If available, do try the Rochefort 10 !

Only 50? We have over 1000 here

May I suggest trying Leffe Blond? It's available in the US... Quite a full taste, but make sure you serve it in a proper glass, and nicely cooled...

By the way, the correct way to serve Hoegaerden is in this glass:

But you keep the glass itself in the freezer, then take it out when you want a beer, and serve it in the frozen glass

SimonSays - you'd probably be surprised that we can get a lot of belgian beers over here. i can, and do, buy Rochefort 10 all day long.

the only one that has proved elusive is the westy 12 - only had once in the states, aged a little over 3 years.

I've heard that there are specialist dealers around in some cities in the USA, here we just buy them in the local supermarket, or a local "drink center", where one would have a few isles of sodas, and then a few isles of mainstream and specialist beers
Westvleteren is a nightmare to get hold of, even for us...
What does Rochefort 10 go for in the US ?
