Scotch.....?
I have never tried scotch before and need a recommendation.
I notice on different Scotch threads that a lot of you recommend and rate the macallan as the one to try.
Should I go with this one? Also Which flavour and why.
Sherry Oak
Fine Oak
Fine & Rare
If I do purchase needs to be in the 10yrs,12yrs,15yrs area.
Thanks Guys.

I looked over that thread and they all look really interesting but I am looking for a beginner scotch. People usually say that in the beginning it taste gross and you need to keep drinking to really understand it. This brand for those years are pretty cheap If I will be drinking it from here and there, why not use a good brand then right?

go to a local bar and order a laphroaig neat and a mccallan 12 neat. the laphroaig is from islay and will be very smoky/peaty and the mccallan is a speyside scotch from sherry oak, it will be sweeter. those in my opinion are the two extremes and will help you figure out which you prefer. if you dont like either one try adding a little water, if you still dont the taste then scotch isn't for you.

To be honest man If your going to start, I'd start with a blend just to get your palette on to it. The brands your talking about are all single malt. (which eventually is the way to go) Id go to the liquor store buy a bottle of gold label or dewars reserve and enjoy those before you upgrade to blue or single malt. By the time you get there you should be drinking these things neat or with 1 or 2 cubes of Ice if you need to have it cold. Dont waste the taste on Ice

Don't ruin good scotch with ice cubes or water. Cold maybe but always neat.
Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll!

I like my drinks cold, so what about storing them in a cold environment.
What is usually the temp you store it at before drinking?
Thanks guys

Drink Black or gold label on the rocks when you start to get a taste for it youll want it neat or chilled. But to each his own If you wanna put ice on it then do it. Remember you have to enjoy it
