i heard food in london was better than elsewhere. and if you stayed away from english food you would do alright.
i flew into manchester and worked in stafford for a week, all the food everywhere that i had was completely bland. even standard stuff i had like nachos and a turkey sandwich was somehow blah.
we went to some italian place my last night there, and by italian place i mean some old couple's dining room it seemed... it was this little place that had like 4 tables. everything was in italian, i never get any specials but just went for the special they had tonight. i'm not sure if it was so good because the food was amazing or because i had been there all week with a constant stream of blah. i don't even know the name of what i ate but it was so good! i'd pay top dollar for that recipe today!"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." - Thomas Jefferson

Well and Truly screwed..no...keep an open mind
I had the opportunity to spend seven of my twenty years in the military in Europe (3 in Italy, 2 in Scotland and 2 in Sardinia (Costa Smeralda rocks!)). I always told new people coming into the command to forget about trying to find things 'just like home'. If you go with that mentality, you will be well and truly screwed! Embrace your new surroundings, ask co-workers for the best places and relax, you'll have a good time.
Later,Lee

Firstly welcome to the UK, come and visit Wales lol ! Please please please please try fish and chips just once, you won't regret it ! London is packed with glorious food, Gordon Ramsay is world famous and he has a few restaurants in London. Italian is no problem in London so many places to choose from. However when I go to London I crave an Indian Curry, The Brilliant Restaurant London - Indian Restaurant Review and Information this is where my family and I go & lots of celebs eat there also.

Saville Row is a world leader for suits. Just because it's good at one thing, doesn't mean it's good for anything else. After a bit of time in London, or if you know a local, you'll know where to go. Don't trust people who work in hotels, or even people on the street. They'll treat you as just another american tourist, and give you the overpriced tourist places. What did you expect?
Exactly, that is what I'm saying. You found a small, non-touristy place. Grats, for discovering real, non-tourist England!
And that's in a place (manchester) that's normally rubbish for food, in fact, pretty much everything except football!
P.S. Mods, why was my last post in this thread deleted?...

Not screwed at all. Excellent Italian and Chinese restaurants all over the place. Its melting pot as far as the population is concerned so you can find pretty much anything. Although this is only based on my time spent in London.
